Collaborating to Address the Health and Legal Needs of Patients Experiencing Intimate Partner Violence and Exploitation: Learning Collaborative Series (2022). Resource Type: Archived Webinar. Description: In May, we collaborated with Health Partners on IPV + Exploitation to host a four-part learning collaborative on partnering to address the health and legal needs of patients and clients experiencing intimate partner violence (IPV) and exploitation. The learning collaborative featured several partnership models and promising practices to develop, sustain, and grow partnerships between health care professionals and legal services providers. Speakers from Colorado Legal Services, Alaska Legal Services, Asian Health Services, and the Indiana LAVA project each shared how partnerships between providers and legal services partners have improved outcomes for survivors and increased access to services. The series also addressed creating MOUs between civil legal service programs, health centers, and domestic violence programs. Attention was also given to tools to utilize “CUES”, a universal education approach that allows providers to reach more patients as a form of both prevention and intervention. Learning Objectives: In this learning collaborative series, participants learned to: Identify strategies to build partnerships between civil legal services providers and community health centers to address the health and legal needs of survivors of IPV and exploitation. Increasing Health Care Enrollment for Survivors of Domestic Violence (2022). Resource Type: Toolkit. Description: People who have experienced intimate partner violence (IPV) have unique health care needs, making insurance that covers comprehensive medical and behavioral health benefits all the more critical. Community health centers play an important role in helping survivors enroll in coverage and receive quality primary health and oral health care services. A special enrollment period for survivors makes enrollment possible across the year with additional provisions to make coverage more affordable for survivors. MLP in Health Centers Guide Webinar Series Part 4: The Medical-Public Defender Partnership (2022). Resource Type: Archived Webinar. Description: Since its founding in the early 1990s, the MLP approach has evolved to incorporate criminal legal in addition to civil legal needs. One of the first MLPs focused on criminal legal needs emerged in Rhode Island, where health centers have partnered with the Rhode Island Public Defender’s Office to collaborate around preserving their shared clients’/patients’ health. Social Determinants of Health Lessons Learned, Challenges, and Barriers: A Resource for Health Centers, Vol. 2 (2022). Resource Type: Publication. Description: The Association of Asian Pacific Community Health Organizations (AAPCHO), Health Outreach Partners (HOP), MHP Salud, and National Health Care for the Homeless Council (NHCHC), four HRSA-funded National Training and Technical Assistance Partner organizations, released a report on lessons learned, challenges, barriers, and impact stories shared from the (4) sessions of the “Screening Methods and Strategies for Using Data on Outreach and Enabling Services to Address Social Determinants of Health” Learning Collaborative.
