Resource Summary: This webinar discusses how nurses, nurse practitioners, and other providers can support patients with substance use disorders.

Resource Details: This webinar includes a review of historical changes in how substance treatment has been provided from the abstinence model to harm reduction; an introduction on the basics of stages of change described by Prochaska and Diclemente (1983); and a review of how to intervene with appropriate interventions for specific stages of change. Basic motivational interviewing techniques that can be used to move individuals to a later stage of change are also presented.
